Micromanipulation With Microrobots
نویسندگان
چکیده
Microrobots are promising tools for applications that require micromanipulation, such as single-cell manipulation and surgery, tissue engineering, desktop manufacturing. This paper briefly reviews common microrobot actuation mechanisms, then current progress in several capabilities desirable with an emphasis on optothermal microrobots.

Vision-assisted micromanipulation using closed-loop actuation of multiple microrobots
Accurate control and precise positioning of opto-thermocapillary flow-addressed bubble microrobots are necessary for micromanipulation. In addition, micromanipulation using the simultaneous actuation of multiple microrobots requires a robust control system to enable independent motion. This paper demonstrates a hybrid closed-loop vision-assisted control system capable of actuating multiple micr...
متن کاملOptical micromanipulation.
Optical micromanipulation has engendered some major studies across all of the natural sciences at the mesoscopic scale. Though over thirty-five years old, the field is finding new applications and has lost none of its dynamic or innovative character: a trapped object presents a system that enables a calibrated minuscule force (piconewtons or less) to be exerted at will, enabling precision displ...

متن کاملMaking Microrobots Move
Our group has recently demonstrated three distinct types of microrobots of progressively smaller size that are wirelessly powered and controlled by magnetic fields. For larger scale microrobots, from 1mm to 500 μm, we microassemble three dimensional devices that precisely respond to torques and forces generated by magnetic fields and field gradients. In the 500 μm to 200 μm range, we have devel...
متن کاملAtomic Micromanipulation with Magnetic Surface Traps
We describe manipulation of neutral atoms using the magnetic field of microfabricated currentcarrying conductors. It is shown how this method can be used to achieve adiabatic magnetic transport from one reservoir to another. In the first experimental realization of a microfabricated magnetic neutral-atom trap, efficient loading is achieved with a novel mirror-magneto-optic trap. A cloud of rubi...
